CRISTINA - IS THAT ALL THERE IS? 1980
Adorable 12” single from Cristina Monet-Palaci, a Harvard drop out who was writing for the Village Voice when she met her future husband Michael Zilkha, co-founder of ZE Records along with Lizzy Mercier Descloux’s partner Michel Esteban, two guys who were really on to something with the hot art school drop outs. Along with producer August Darnell they made some of the most outrageously stylish and fun records to come out of the NY no wave scene, like this completely adulterated cover of Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is?” which quickly prompted its authors Leiber and Stoller to sue and have it withdrawn. The track has since reappeared on reissues of Cristina’s debut album.
