NITZER EBB - JOIN IN THE CHANT (LIES), 1987 12”
Essex, England group inspired by the punk ethos of bands such as DAF, Killing Joke, and Bauhaus that began in 1982 with a shared interest in witchcraft, talking to trees, and collecting rune stones. After the pounding “Join In The Chant” was remixed by producer Flood, it became one of the crucial tracks in the growing alternative dance scene alongside Chicago house, Detroit techno, and Northern soul. Flood earned his first major credit as an assistant engineer on New Order’s Movement, and honed a hard-edged electronic production style working with bands such as Depeche Mode, U2, and even Smashing Pumpkins.
