X-RAY SPEX - GERM FREE ADOLESCENTS, 1978
One of the great English punk bands of the late ’70s, X-Ray Spex was formed in 1976 by school friends Poly Styrene on vocals and Lora Logic on saxophone, an atypical addition to the standard punk instrumental line-up; it became one of the group’s most distinctive musical features. The songs were guitar-driven punk-pop that combined effervescently discordant vocals and semi-tuneful sax melodies with a sense of alienation and disenfranchisement about rampant commercialism in an increasingly sterile and artificial world.
