  • THE CURE - BOYS DON’T CRY, 1979

Wonderfully scratchy copy of The Cure’s second single; also the second release on UK indie label Fiction Records, started in 1978 and home to the band for over 20 years. This was released as a stand alone single around the same time as their debut album Three Imaginary Boys in May 1979 so it did not show up on the album. Apparently, due to the young band’s inexperience in the studio, the Fiction label owner and sound engineer took control of the recording sessions leaving the band mostly unhappy with their debut, citing it as a superficial and lightweight emulation of the Buzzcocks, Costello, or punk Beatles. Their sound changed dramatically after supporting Siouxsie and the Banshees on tour the same year.
